On February 16th we began our Eurythmy block which continues for all students until Spring Break. Our visiting Eurythmist, Benjamin Lane, will be offering three upcoming parent classes on February 29, March 7, and March 14 for parents who are interested in experiencing Eurythmy firsthand, and learning more about what takes place in Eurythmy class at City of Lakes Waldorf School.
From Mr. Lane:
“My name is Benjamin Lane, and I am here for a short block of Eurythmy that is already underway. I am visiting from California. I recently graduated from the American Eurythmy School in 2014 and since then have begun to get my feet wet in the adventure of teaching young people the art of Eurythmy.
Eurythmy is a gift from Rudolf Steiner and stems directly out of Anthroposophy. Eurythmy is a performing art using the spoken word or music in combination with movement so that sound becomes visible movement through performer to audience. In school we enter many different imaginations through Eurythmy and the curriculum varies from fairy tales, mythology, poetry and verse all accompanied by music.
In addition to working with what has been mentioned, Eurythmy is centered around lifting and cultivating a healthy social life. My hope as a teacher of your children would be that through Eurythmy we may find a way to build a relationship with one another and as a whole class: that we may deepen our relationship to the world through the story, poem, or piece of music we work on.
I would like to offer three parent classes over the next few weeks where we will make a beginning into Eurythmy and look at some of what takes place in Eurythmy class at school. I look forward to meeting whomever would be able to attend these classes.”
Three classes will be offered on Mondays, February 29, March 7, and March 14 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the Eurythmy room on the 2nd floor. All are welcome! Please wear comfortable clothing and come with an open mind to listen, move, and take in the beauty and benefits of the practice of Eurythmy. The last half hour of the evening will be reserved for questions and conversation.
