Bike-A-Thon

City of Lakes Waldorf School Bike-A-Thon

One of our most enjoyable events of the school year is our annual Bike-A-Thon. Children and other supporters of City of Lakes Waldorf School collect pledges from friends, family, and neighbors for each lap they can cycle around Lake Harriet. Our Bike-A-Thon is a rousing and fun-filled annual fundraiser, bringing excitement into our hallways while supporting our general operating budget. Join us this year for another fun-filled day at Lake Harriet!

Registration begins at the Lake Harriet Bandshell at 10:00 am. All students will receive a racing number and the official send-off will take place at 10:30 am. Although most families strive to arrive by 10:00 in order to be a part of the send-off, the event itself has an “open house” feel. Come when you can, bike as long as you want to, and leave when you need to!

Activities

Need a rest? We’ll have several fun activities taking place throughout the morning including face painting by the 8th graders (beginning around 11:30), a bike tune-up/basic repair station, and a yummy assortment of snacks and beverages.

How can I participate?

Ride your bike, ride your trike, ride your unicycle! With each lap around Lake Harriet, you earn money for our school! This year, we are collecting donations and pledges through Pledge It. Bike-A-Thon pledge sheets have been sent home with all students, and extra copies are also available in the main office.

Why fundraise?

The Bike-A-Thon is one of two annual fundraising events for our school. Each year the school needs to raise approximately $200,000 to help pay for what it actually costs to educate each student, beyond the tuition amount. Funds raised go to program enhancement, teacher benefits, and tuition assistance. Thank you for supporting our fundraising event which helps to keep Waldorf education accessible for as many families as possible.

What are the Bike-A-Thon’s fundraising goals?

Last year, some students collected $25; others collected hundreds of dollars. We ask each family to discuss this fundraiser with their students and make a realistic, yet challenging goal. Here are some guidelines:

  • Early Childhood (Pre-K and K) students: $60 or more
  • Grades students: $150 or more
  • Classroom Goal: 100% participation
  • School-wide Goal: $18,000
