Fundraising Events

Many special event fundraisers have become CLWS traditions. These events are intended to both build community and support the financial health of the school.

Bike-a-thon – October 9, 2011

The first event of the school year is the annual Bike-a-Thon. Held on Sunday, October 9, from 10:00 – 1:00 this year, our children and other supporters of Waldorf schools raise and collect pledges for bicycling around Lake Harriet. It is a rousing and fun-filled time that brings as much excitement into our hallways as it does money into our general operating account! (Is there a specific amount earmarked for tuition assistance? that sounds more interesting than just general operating account). Please join us and support CLWS! Contact us at (612) 767-1503 or development@clws.org for more information.

Grandparents & Special Friends Day – Friday, November 18, 2011

Our annual Grandparents and Special Friends Day will be held Friday, November 18 this year.  This is one of the children’s favorite events and a great opportunity for them to share their school and classroom with the special people in their lives.  The morning begins in the gymnasium with coffee and homemade treats.  Each grades class joins guests in the gym to welcome them and share a part of their day.  The morning concludes with an opportunity to tour the school and visit individual classrooms.  We are grateful that so many of our extended families and friends are able to join us for this special day in the life of our school!

Holiday Fair – December 2nd (evening) and 3rd, 2011

We host an annual Holiday Fair, which falls in 2011 on December 2nd (evening event only) and 3rd (all day event). The Holiday Fair offers a host of crafts and activities for children, gnomes leading the way into the crystal caves, candle-dipping, story-telling, puppet shows, musical performances, treats and eats, the School Store open for holiday shopping, and lots more. The Holiday Fair is a time-honored family-favorite way to support the school. We hope you’ll join us this coming year!

Spring Art Auction – April 14, 2012 7-10 p.m.

Save the Date: April 14 is set for the CLWS Spring Art Auction!

Mark your calendars, hire your babysitters, and invite friends and family to our new spring fundraising event taking place in our beautiful school building! Our silent art auction will include 200+ pieces of artwork donated from the community, and most bids will start at $5!  This will be the place to find affordable and original art, but of course you’ll be supporting an amazing school at the same time. Admission is free, but a $5 per person donation is suggested. There will also be music, drinks, and light appetizers – a lovely evening to be sure!

WE NEED YOU!  WE WANT TO SHOWCASE YOUR TALENT! We are seeking art donations in any medium to include in our auction, and/or do you know someone who you could ask to donate something? We are hoping to collect paintings, drawings, etchings, prints, pottery, jewelry, felting, sewing, knitting, etc.  Items can be brought to our office or we can pick an item up at most locations. No need to wait as we are collecting items now! Fill out this donation form and submit with your item. Questions? Contact development@clws.org or cherylarkin@yahoo.com.  See you there!

Great Gathering hosts – submit your ideas for 2012-13 gatherings now! Consider hosting a great gathering to bring CLWS families together over the next school year. Some of the most popular school events of the year are “Great Gatherings” – fixed-price social events designed to get CLWS friends together to have fun and get to know one another better while raising funds for our school. Gatherings held in the past have included ethnic dinners, house concerts, camping trips, wine tastings, museum tours, bike rides, guys poker nights, and artisan pizza parties just to name a few!  Events can be held at your home, at a restaurant, and can be for kids only, adults only, or for the whole family. The possibilities are endless! Great Gatherings are tremendous fun and great community builders. So put your thinking caps on, release your inner host, and plan to have some fun! A donation form is available now online. If you have an idea for a Gathering but need a co-host or venue to make it happen, contact us. We’ll help!

If you’d like to volunteer (procuring art, helping with set-up, take down, and at the event), let us know. Thank you!

Great Gatherings

“What’s a Great Gathering?” you ask?  Simply put, Great Gatherings are fixed-price, social events designed to get new and old CLWS friends together to have fun while raising needed funds for CLWS. The list of Great Gatherings for 2011-12 was rolled out at the Springtide Soiree in April 2011, and several of the gatherings still have openings! If you’re interested in signing up for any, simply stop by the school office and sign up.  Check out the calendar of events by clicking here.

We are also considering other fundraising ideas in 2011-12 and beyond such as smaller dinner parties and hosting regular Open Houses to welcome new community members into our school. As we plan these events and the ones listed above, we’re always in need of volunteers to support our work. Please consider chairing one of our Fundraising Events this year or assisting others who will help to make them happen. Contact us at (612) 767-1503 or development@clws.org today!
